Analysis of Music Videos

I have chosen 3 contemporary music videos to analyse, in order to help with the creation of my own music video. By analysing the codes, conventions, use of camera, editing, genre, style, and narrative I hope to gain a better understanding of the development of a pop music video. 1. Viva Forever - Spice Girls The song Viva Forever , released in 1997, aims to capture the feelings and emotions of losing a loved one. The song is written to almost reminisce about said lost loved one. The music video, posted to YouTube in 2009, has gained over 42 million views. It is a narrative video, with some performance aspects in the form of puppet-versions of the Spice Girls . The video's narrative is that of two boys, who stumble upon a series of seemingly magical artefacts, in the form of gigantic toys (e.g. massive Rubik's cube). One boy is scared of the artefacts, the other seems to be fascinated by them. He is taken away by some fairies, leaving the other boy to seal him to ...

Website Layout Planning - Planning for Webpage

Image
When creating my website, I wanted to use elements from the websites I had researched as well as putting to use my new general understanding of music websites. There were various features of sites I had researched that heavily influenced my website, while other aspects I created myself, using my research as inspiration. The homepage is incredibly simplistic, purposefully. I was heavily influenced by the website of Fleetwood Mac and I decided that a good, eye-catching first image to use is the band's logo on a simple coloured background. I chose a pastel colour scheme, as I felt it was calming and trendy and also helped to form a unique style (I had not seen much use of pastel colours in the websites I had researched).  I also made sure to feature some obvious social media links. As my target audience is quite young, social media is a significant tool in marketing and outreach. Maximising traffic to the band's social media is important for reaching their target au...

Statement of Intent

For my products this year, I will complete a website and music video for a fictional band called Slumber of The Hilltop Banner. All creative choices will be made to appeal to a demographic of teenagers and young adults (13 - 25), specifically those who are fans of pop music, as well as appealing to a wider, mainstream audience as well. I have taken the time to research and analyse music videos and websites of popular bands, in the hopes of creating products that are true to life and authentic.  My band, Slumber of The Hilltop Banner,  is designed to appeal to pop fans through various methods. Most notably, features of my website and music video will align closely with the aesthetics of the pop genre, including: merchandise that is youthful and trendy, contemporary album art and a music video with a narrative that reflects the themes of the song. I have purposefully created the members of my fictional band in such a way that they would appeal to young pop fans, by ...

Research of Band Websites

Image
In order to prepare myself to create a website for my fictional band, I first researched websites of pre-existing bands. I wanted to get ideas for design, features and layout.  Metallica  https://www.metallica.com/ When you first open this website, the first thing you will notice is the band's logo and an image of them performing at a gig. The colours are simple, but catch your eye. The page is not cluttered and the image can be clearly seen. The next thing you will notice is a semi-transparent sidebar, informing the visitor of a prerecorded concert that can be viewed on the band's YouTube. I found that this kind of cross-platform linking was common on the websites I viewed. The navigation bar is very simple, almost small and hard to notice. However, it features a menu option which opens up into a much larger, more in-depth navigation panel. In the bottom right hand corner there are various icon-links to the band's social media. This was also quite c...
